Lagoon Blue Lotus Europa Special

Post  AJF888 on Fri Sep 11, 2009 11:27 am

Morning everyone,

There is a Lagoon Blue Lotus Europa TwinCam Special for sale at Thornfalcon in Somerset - I like those a lot.

Does anyone know anything of its history at all. I am arranging for a specialist to go and look at it for me but any feedback the forum can provide would be gratefully received. I don't know the car's reg no or VIN but someone might know it.

It has also been put to me that I should ask the club what they think about a Spyder chassis as opposed to a Lotus replacement chassis. Any views - it feels like I am asking a very contentious question.

I have a modern Caterham but don't know much about classic Lotus.

Thanks

Andy

Spyder Chassis, are nice bits of Engineering, I fitted one to my Elan.
With the Europa you also have the option of fitting The Spyder twin Wishbone rear Suspension which IMHO is superior to the original trailing arm set-up.
They also do a rear Disk Brake conversion & provide the possibility of fitting a 5 speed Renault g/box
Cars of that age usually suffer quite badly from corrosion especially at the front uprights. The Spyder re-design practically eliminates that.
Does the car you mention have a replacement or a Spyder chassis already fitted?
Chassis replacement usually leads to lots of other jobs being done, all worthwhile of course but something you have to budget for, both time wise & financially.

Cheers

John

Thanks for your note. The car was apparently fully rebuilt and restored with a Spyder chassis in 1988 and has only done 10,000 miles since. The low subsequent mileage concerns me a bit as I'm a veteran of Alfas and know what happens if you don't use a car much.

I do not know what else has been done - I'm waiting for the specialists comments. I am very much in SJ's hands.

I am hoping its in good nick. I cannot take on another resto project.
